It's bad enough the Society doesn't quote references ......
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inbut on page 43 of the 1991 "flock book", here's how the society encourages those who give public talks to "regularly work toward improving their teaching ability" .... 1. do thorough research in the society's publications to bring the material to life.
2. be sure your outline is kept current(sound advice).
periodically update your statistics, experiences, illustrations and so forth.. however, the book-holder noted the following in the margin:.

Segregation in the Kingdumb Hall
by Wordly Andre indoes any older members here remember this?
the org having 2 congs for whites and blacks, i think they said it was for the protection for the black jw's?

In my area, the mid-atlantic, (I already told you guys I'm not in Canada:) there was segregation based on the strict laws here in the 60's and part of the 70's. According to a friend of mine, it was a tough time getting everyone unified socially in the congs, but they did it. I personally think there is still some prejudice in the congs here, though.

..new things in my area...
by all_along_the_watchtower inhey, im not sure if anyone knows of this, but recenetly (well actually like about 3-4 months ago) jw's in my area have been told to create emergency preparation kits for themselves or thier familys, and to give the elders phone numbers of non-witness relatives for emergency contacts.. also one thing that they've just started doing is the elders are going around giving "sheparding calls" to everyone in the congragation and asking them questions such as *( they said this from the platform) "what do you find the hardest about being in the truth" or something along those lines.. i think that just might be a local thing, but it is strange and over the many years they have never really done any thing like that.. and the emergency thing i thik is strange too.. maybee they think a disater will happen here.... just thought i would mention this 'cause i find it a little strange.. well not that strange, their always on to something new and crazy...

Not Jesus. Jehovah. Never put JS in JH's place! Oooo, what scandal! And why do they need to tell anyone to do this if the news always says to have emergency prep kits?

I am 4th generation JW, was baptized, then moved away to a city where no one knows me. I joined a couple of congs because of inter-city moving and then quit going. I have not been bothered but for two occasions and they were easy to take care of: I am not going back and I don't want the magazines. Thank you anyway. Good bye. Simple.

meditation: your thoughts? :)
by DeusMauzzim inthe wtbts always has meditation as a topic on conventions.
they always state that eastern meditation makes the mind "blank", so this is a no no.. of course we know that it is actually the convention that makes the mind blank :).
so what are your thoughts on meditation now?.

If it is so bad to meditate, then it is equally as bad to try to fall asleep at night. You use the same technique!

From what I've read, you are supposed to acknowledge your thoughts without actually thinking on them. Just notice they are there. I meditated once recently and took a trip into the galaxy around the stars while growing roots into the entire earth. Then I pulled them back into my body while returning one galaxy at a time to our solar system then our planet. Then I was once again sitting on my living room floor. It takes practice to remain focused but it was worth it! What a trip! I'm going to do it again

Would this be rude?
by lisavegas420 inas i'm leaving my favorite mexican restrauant saturday evening, i noticed some jw's coming in.
how did i know, because they were all still wearing their badges, well all except for the youngest, probably 13 or so with longish hair.
i thought about asking them how was the assembly and did they learn anything that new or if there had been any new releases.

Go with what feels right to you. I have learned that my gut is very trustworthy. OTOH, I think there are some on this board that just can't resist reinforcing the stereotype of DAd or DFd people, that people who leave the organization become assholes. That is up to them if they want to behave like that, but I think it can make it harder on some of us who are trying to make a point to family and friends (thereby helping them out of the org.) by saying that once we leave, our lives improve. I want to give them something to drool about.

Do they DA people who quit going?
by White Dove indo the elders da people who quit going?
i quit going two years ago and when sisters came to my door one time and asked why, i told them that the elders are no different from the pharisees and that i don't want anymore to do with it.
no elders have ever visited me concerning this or any other matter.

Thank you so much for all of that info! It has calmed me a bit.
